WE CARE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY
Posted on Friday, February 26th, 2010 by Allan Siegel
The CSCS family once again donated to the Capital Area Food Bank to help feed those in our community that are less fortunate. Our Associate, Ebony M. Robinson, organized the food drive once again this year and the entire staff participated by donating food and personal hygiene items and filling up three large boxes in our lobby. If you would like to make your own donation, please visit: https://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/donate/ or drop off a donation to:

CSCS . . . We Fight For Our Rights Too!!!!
Posted on Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 by Allan Siegel
As you may have recognized, CSCS has undergone extensive renovation of our lobby and conference room over the last 12 months. However, the renovations were not without strife. The contractors we hired to perform the repairs did not live up to their part of the contract. In fact, they walked away from the project leaving much of the work undone. Unfortunately, the lawyers at CSCS had to find other contractors to finish the work and file a lawsuit against the initial contractors once they refused to provide CSCS with a refund. Well, the Court saw it OUR way and awarded over $100,000 in damages for breach of contract and violations of the Consumer Protection Act. Here at CSCS, we fight for your rights AND OUR OWN!

RECALLED TOYOTAS HAVE CAUSED INJURIES – KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Posted on Monday, February 22nd, 2010 by Allan Siegel
Toyota has recalled 8.5 million Lexus and Toyota vehicles, since October 2009 for problems with braking, accelerators and floor-mats. Many drivers have reported losing control of their vehicles and crashing as a result of sudden acceleration or when the accelerator has gotten stuck beneath carpet plastic floor mats. In addition, there have been incidents where the braking systems in Toyota’s best selling Hybrid Prius vehicles failed to appropriately respond to braking. These defects may have lead to serious and even deadly injuries.
Listed below are some of the Toyota and Lexus models involved in the largest recall in Toyota’s seven decade history:
2005-2010 Avalon
2007-2010 Camry
2009-2010 RAV4
2009-2010 Corolla
2008-2010 Sequoia
2008-2010 Highlander
2005-2010 Tacoma
2009-2010 Matrix
2007-2010 Tundra
2004-2010 Prius
2009-2010 VENZA
2007-2010 Lexus ES 350
2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350
If you, or a family member have been injured as a result of an automobile accident involving one of the Toyota or Lexis vehicle involved in the recall you should call the the automobile accident lawyers at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. to review your rights.

More Problems For Metro
Posted on Monday, February 15th, 2010 by Allan Siegel
A Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority Train (WMATA or METRO) train derailed on February 12, 2010. The train was on the red line and had just left the Farrugut North metro station. The train derailed at approximately 10:15 a.m., causing 345 passengers to be stranded underground for approximately an hour. This is just the latest incident involving safety lapses at metro causing injuries and death on the capital’s subway system. The incidents include the deadly June 22, 2009 red line crash that killed nine people, and injured many others. The law firm represents the family of one of the individuals that died, as well as an individual that was injured in that crash. In addition, in the last seven months five metro workers have been killed on the tracks. According to Metro, this latest incident caused injuries to three passengers. It has been reported that this incident was precipitated by the Metro train operator failing to stop at a red traffic signal on the main track. The National Transportation Board (NTSB) is now investigating this incident. This is the most recent of multiple ongoing NTSB investigations into Metro’s operations. In fact, there will be NTSB hearings related to the June22, 2009 train crash in Washington, D.C. starting on February 23, 2010. Representatives from the law firm will be present at these hearings, and will be following them very closely.
The latest incident demonstrates that Metro is continuing to have safety problems which are jeopardizing the safety and well being of the individuals that ride the trains every day. If you have any questions regarding any of the Metro incidents, or if you were involved in any of these incidents and want to inquire about your rights, do not hesitate to call our expert train lawyers.

Pharmaceutical industry replaces the defense industry as having the most whistleblower cases against it.
Posted on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 by Allan Siegel
Previously, the defense industry was the most targeted industry by employees for the purposes of blowing the whistle on government fraud and waste. Now the pharmaceutical industry has taken over as the #1 area for whistleblowing. With the government picking up more and more of the nation’s healthcare costs, generally through Medicaid or Medicare, the focus has shifted to doctors, hospitals, drugmakers and other industry players. The rich reward, frequently in the millions of dollars, to whistleblowers has encouraged the use of the Federal False Claims Act. It is the intention of the Federal False Claims Act to encourage whistleblowers by rewarding them millions of dollars because in the end, the taxpayers- and that means you- save money.
